What is the Flex Federal Employee Relief Program?
This program provides temporary support to federal employees and contractors affected by the government shutdown. Eligible federal employees and contractors will have their Flex membership fee waived when they pay rent with Flex in November.
Active duty military members will continue to have their monthly Flex membership fees waived for as long as they continue to serve.
What is Flex Rent?
Flex Rent is a Flex product that gives you access to a credit line so you can split your rent into two smaller payments instead of paying it all at once. Your rent gets paid directly to your property, and you repay Flex in two payments during the month.
This setup gives you more control over your budget, helps you avoid late fees, and makes managing your monthly cash flow simpler.
All applications are subject to credit approval. Positive payment history and account information may be reported to national credit bureaus.
Why is Flex offering this support?
Government shutdowns can disrupt paychecks and create real financial strain. Rent is still due even when income is delayed. Flex was built to give renters more control over their cash flow. This program is part of our ongoing commitment to support renters during moments of financial uncertainty.
Who is eligible?
Federal government employees and contractors impacted by the current shutdown are eligible.
We use your .gov email only to confirm eligibility. You can use a personal email to create your Flex account and for all future communications. We will not email your .gov address unless you use it to sign up for Flex.
How does the membership fee waiver work?
If you are a federal employee or contractor and you pay rent with Flex in November, your Flex membership fee will be waived for that billing cycle.
- New users: After signing up through the relief landing page and completing verification, the waiver will be automatically applied when you make your second payment in November.
- Existing users: You must verify your status through the landing page so we can apply the waiver to your November rent payment.
Flex’s platform is designed with strong consumer protections. There are no late fees, no compounding interest, and no loan stacking. You choose when to make your second payment — any day before the end of the month — so you can better align it with your next paycheck. This flexibility helps renters stay current on rent and avoid harmful financial tradeoffs.
All applications are subject to approval. Eligibility and terms may vary.
What fees still apply?
The 1% bill payment fee applies to all payments. For example, if your rent is $1,500, the fee is $15.
A $3 property pass-through fee may apply depending on your property. This is not a Flex fee; it is set and collected by your property’s management system.
If you choose to pay with a credit card, there is an additional 2.5% credit card processing fee.
The Flex membership fee (up to $14.99) will be waived in November for eligible federal employees and contractors who pay rent with Flex.
