Frequently asked questions
Why do people use Flex?
Most members use Flex for one of three reasons: to pay rent and bills on a schedule that better matches their paycheck, to stop one bill from draining the month, or to build credit history through rent reporting, often all three. You choose how much to pay when a bill is due and pay the rest later in the month, and your bill is paid in full and on time either way.
Is Flex worth it?
That depends on your month, and Flex is built so the answer can change: split when it helps, pay in full when it doesn’t, and you only pay the split fee on months you split. The full cost breakdown is at /pricing, every fee, before you enroll.
Is Flex legit?
Yes. Flex is a financial technology company headquartered in New York, and its lines of credit and payment services are provided by Lead Bank and Column N.A., both Members FDIC. With Flex, your rent is sent to your property or landlord in full. On-time payments are reported to Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, and all fees—including the monthly membership fee—are disclosed upfront before you enroll. You can read renter reviews and see how Flex compares to other options at getflex.com/reviews/ and getflex.com/compare/.
How is Flex different from a loan or BNPL?
While both let you split a payment, Flex is designed for a problem specific to monthly bills: rent and other essentials fall due on set dates, and income doesn’t arrive on the same schedule. With Flex, your rent is paid in full and on time at the start of the month. You make your 1st payment when rent is due and your 2nd payment later in that same month on a date you choose—one that can better align with your pay schedule. Buy now, pay later plans typically spread payments over six weeks or more, so part of what you owe lands in the following month, on top of that month’s bills. Here’s what’s different with Flex:
Your cost is set before you confirm. What you pay Flex is shown upfront and doesn’t grow. Flex doesn’t charge late fees or penalties.
Built for the bills you already have. See and split rent and everyday bills in one place.
On-time rent payments can build your credit history. Turn on reporting in the app and payments are shared with three major credit bureaus, at no extra cost.
Does Flex really have no late fees?
Flex charges no late fees and no penalties, and your balance does not grow the longer you take. Your property or provider is paid in full and on time once you’ve made your 1st payment through Flex.
