NEW YORK — August 18, 2026Flex for Good, the nonprofit affiliate of the financial technology company Flex, has been named winner of the Affordable Housing Solution of the Year award in the sixth annual PropTech Breakthrough Awards. The program, run by independent market intelligence organization Tech Breakthrough, drew thousands of nominations worldwide across categories spanning financing, property management, marketplaces, insurance and construction technology.

The award recognizes a model built on an unusual premise: that the payment infrastructure a fintech uses to move rent every month can also be used to move emergency grants to renters at the moment they are closest to losing their housing.

Since launching, Flex for Good has delivered more than $1 million in emergency rental assistance. Applicants are verified and funds disbursed in under 48 hours, compared with the weeks or months common in traditional rental assistance programs. A partnership with the nonprofit Hope+Door tripled verification speed by layering real-time financial data onto the existing payment network. Seventy-five percent of recipients report feeling securely housed after receiving assistance.

The same infrastructure has been redeployed across very different kinds of crises. Flex for Good used it to move funds to federal employees during the 2025 government shutdown, and to disaster survivors in Los Angeles and Florida.

"Rental assistance usually fails on timing, not intent," said Ryan Metcalf, VP of Public Affairs at Flex. "A family facing eviction does not have six weeks to wait on a determination. What we found is that the rails we already run to process rent payments can verify need and get money directly to the property management company in under two days. This award is recognition of that idea, but the numbers that matter to us most are 92.7% which is the number that remained current on rent and housed 3 months after receiving a grant and 75% — the share of recipients who tell us they feel securely housed afterward."

Flex for Good is an independent 501(c)(3) organization. Winners across all categories of the 2026 PropTech Breakthrough Awards are announced at PropTechBreakthrough.com.
